When an insurance producer takes this course, they will gain 15 hours of continuing education on life and accident and health insurance. The course contains three segments that focus on insurance in general, life insurance, and accident and health insurance.

The training on insurance in general discusses fundamental concepts including risk and risk management, loss, agency, and insurance contracts.

The portion of the course that is concerned with life insurance explores core concepts of life insurance, standard provisions in life insurance policies, and annuities.

  • The segments covering core concepts will discuss the nature and purpose of life insurance, the different types of life policies, and what this kind of insurance is used to accomplish.
  • The training on standard contract provisions will talk about the standard provisions found in life insurance policies before moving onto a discussion of beneficiaries and options and riders.
  • The instruction on annuities will look in depth at this type of insurance product and how it compares to other forms of life insurance.

The segment of the course that addresses accident and health insurance will talk about the core aspects of health insurance, provisions and options that are normally found in health insurance policies, and long-term care insurance.

  • The part of the course on core aspects of health insurance will describe what makes health insurance unique, look at the different forms of health insurance, and discuss health insurance underwriting.
  • The segment on health insurance provisions and options will go over the contractual elements of a health insurance policy.
  • Long term care insurance (or LTC) is the primary interest of one segment of this course. This segment will cover the primary elements of LTC, how LTC can be marketed, and suitability issues.

To finish the course, a student will complete a 80 question exam. The intent is to help students understand and retain the content of this course.

Note: On and after January 1, 2022, the bill amends the CEC requirement for agents to require each licensed agent to earn 18 CECs biennially, permit at least 3 hours of instruction in ethics, and remove the required insurance agency management hours.
