This newly-updated 3-hour class fulfills the requirement for all Oregon licensed insurance producers to receive credit for the required continuing education in Oregon laws and rules. This course covers numerous required laws and rules, updates certain existing rules, and includes new statutes and rules that were enacted during the most recent legislative sessions. This interesting course also provides a number of related court cases and analyses, and there are many illustration, graphs, charts and statistics that enhance the course’s offerings.
Specifically, the topics covered in this course are:
- Oregon licensing laws and rules, including its purpose, qualifications required for licensure, classes of insurance, consultants, licensing exemptions, adjusters, and temporary licenses;
- Maintenance and duration of licenses, renewal and nonrenewal, expiration, the authority of the Director (Commissioner), changes that must be reported to the state, disciplinary actions including civil and criminal infractions and prohibitions;
- State regulation, including producer appointments, unfair claims settlement practices, standards for prompt claims investigations, automobile insurance total loss material, personal and controlled business rules, and practices injurious to free competition;
- Commission, service and incidental fees, producer regulations, unfair trade practices, false advertising, deceptive actions, rebating, unfair discrimination, and illegal inducements;
- Privacy laws, including definitions, consumer privacy, notice of insurance information practices, Oregon administrative rules, important definitions and concepts, notice to customer requirements, and limits on sharing information;
- New and revised regulations, including the following:
- A bill that strengthens consumer protections for homeowners dealing with wildfire-related issues (SB 82);
- A bill establishing new disclosure and care obligations for the sale of annuities in Oregon (SB 536);
- Legislation that requires homeowners insurance issuers to offer 70% of property contents coverage without requiring policyholders to submit an inventory if a total loss occurs due to a declared disaster (HB 2982);
- Changes to breast examinations and coverage requirements (SB 1041);
- Changes to motor vehicle collision reporting and other related changes (SB1574);
- Changes to how insurer’s decisions concerning motor vehicle liability insurance are permitted (HB 4018);
- Reproductive rights (HB2002); and
- Requirements for Monkeypox (now referred to as “Mpox”) treatment, vaccines, and coverage (ORS 743.264 as noted).
- Case law examples and studies related to the course material, including cases involving incompetent conduct, conviction of state and federal crime, securities and insurance violations, forgery, impersonation, false document submissions, and more.
